Free Sunday’s in August @ Fairchild Gardens

Summer Exhibition of Giants in the City
Where: Miami Beach Botanical Gardens
When: Begins: Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 @ 10:00am – 1:00pm Closes: Friday, August 7th, 2010 @ 7:00pm – 11:00pm
The 2010 Summer Exhibition of Giants in the City, an inflatable sculpture public Art Project by founder and curator Alejandro Mendoza features 22 giant sculptures fabricated in nylon, inflated, and supported upright by a continuous supply of air through the interior.
A family day on Tuesday, August 3 from 10AM to 1PM includes arts and craft projects for youngsters, tours and interactive performances with the giant sculptures. Sponsored by Irreversible Magazine.
The exhibit closes with a giant reception on Friday, August 6, 7 to 11PM with music and refreshments.

P.L.A.Y. Days at Deering Estate

The Deering Estate at Cutler will host Fee-Free “P.L.A.Y.” Days on Saturday, August 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Visitors must enter the Estate before 4:00 pm. The main gate ticket booth closes at 4:00 p.m.).
Bring your family and friends and enjoy complimentary admission as well as hands on eco-art activities, science discovery programs, and historic house tours – all for free! Guests can stroll through the Artist Village where the Deering Estate’s Artists-in-Residence create and display works of art in their studios. The GroveHouse Artist Exhibit will also be on display in the Richmond Cottage. Spend the entire day and have a picnic on the main lawn facing Biscayne Bay. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies and soft drinks will be available for an additional fee. Food provided by the Mango Café at Fruit and Spice Park.

Target Arts & Wonder Free Family Event

Target Arts & Wonder Free Family Event is part of the Target commitment to arts and education. Since 1946, the company has given 5 percent of its income to support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today, that adds up to more than $3 million a week. During the third weekend of July, more than 80 institutions in 30 cities across the country will participate in the Target Arts & Wonder Free Family Event. Thanks to Target, visitors can visit Miami Children’s Museum for FREE on July 16th 2010.

Culinary Kids Cooking Classes

Where: Miami Beach Botanical Gardens
When : Starting July 19, 2010
Cooking instructor Cindy Hill will conduct a two-week summer camp for youngsters, July 19 to 30 with classes Monday to Friday from 9AM to 4PM at the Garden. Classes include whole food cooking instruction, nutritional fun and facts, multi-cultural recipes, gardening and field games. Students prepare nutritious lunches daily with organic, wholesome foods. $250 per week for garden members and residents of Miami Beach, $285 non members, includes food and supplies.
