Orchids in Homestead. The great thing about living in Miami is the ability to visit the farms in the Redlands and then go to dinner at a 5 star restaurant in the beach. R.F. Orchids is a beautiful orchid farm with many varieties of orchids. On the weekends they offer a free tour at 11am. Although this is not really a “kids attraction”, it is the perfect place to visit with your child who is 1 year old or younger. Babies really love to see all the bright colors of nature. My daughter is almost 3 years old  and she was more interested in the cats roaming around the orchid farm. Although, she did love her mini phalaenopsis orchid and held it on the whole car ride home (until she feel asleep). After leaving we made a quick stop at one of the local U-pick farms and had a delicious shake.

Her name is Honey and she’s a Golden Retriever. My sister-in-law had 9 puppies and we just had to take one. Now, we already have two other dogs, an outside cat and two fish tanks inside. Is it obvious that we love animals? My daughter has also taken on our love for animals and is so excited when she comes home to see them all. I believe it is good for children  to grow up with animals around them. They learn to love and take care of them. As well as having fond memories of the family dog growing up. Children also learn how to be responsible by taking care of simple daily tasks like feeding and walking the pets. In our house my daughter is the official caretaker of the pets. She lets the dogs in and out of their cage and let’s them out to the backyard to play. She also enjoys taking the dogs to the dog parks around Miami. I had seen the Circo Bow Wow and Meow comforter set at Target but they only had it in twin size. Because of my daughter’s love for dogs and cats, I knew she would love it! Yesterday while I was at Target yet again I found the set for toddler beds. Now  is when the re-decorating process begins. If you are planning to re-decorate think of taking the simplified approach to your design. Although kids love their toys, try to eliminate some of their older toys which they don’t play with anymore. Have a garage sale or donate the old toys to someone who may be less fortunate. Designate a reading/homework area to allow your children to embrace learning as something fun. Frame some of their best art work and put it in their room up for display. Keep the room fun and have your children help you with the design process. They are the one’s who are going to be using the space after all! Good luck :)

Not only have I been extremely busy with family issues but I have also gone back to work. I feel very blessed that I was able to spend the first two years of my daughters life with her at home. Although we are still getting use to this huge change in our lives , I feel like she is really starting to enjoy daycare. Now don’t get me wrong, the first week or so was heart wrenching. There were many tears shed on both of our parts. It seems to get easier and easier as the days go on. Now I just have to figure out how to pack our weekends full of fun activities and this new time change doesn’t make it very easy. With Thanksgiving and Christmas around the corner our days seem to become more and more busy. There is shopping for presents, baking for your child’s class and planning your own holiday dinners! It never seems to end. Yet with all of the stress of trying to maintain a balance between work and family, the best part of my day is the second I see my daughter when I pick her up from daycare. That smile makes it all worth while! Please feel free to offer advice on how to cope with going back to work (No matter the age of your child).

The evening will include admission to Dr. Wilde’s Screamatorium, the haunted house at Dr. Wilde’s World, spooky tram rides, ghoulish carousel rides, scary movies, chilling story-telling at the Amphitheatre around a fire pit, and ”thriller” dance lessons at the Aviary Plaza. Candy stations, roving street theatre, and encounters with creepy critters such as tarantulas, scorpions and snakes, will add unsettling excitement to the pathways. A costume parade will culminate this Halloween Eve event.

Haunted Halloween ” Spook Paddle”
Where:Oleta River State Park
When:Friday, October 30, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
A night paddle through a spooky mangrove and beach trail. Kayak will launch from the front of the Blue Moon Outdoor Center. Park patrons can enjoy a 20-minute guided kayak or canoe paddle. Along the trail are some scary bats, ghosts, and spiders. Paddle is rated ‘Easy.’ This is a great event for ages 8 years and up with an adult.
